People for a Pause

People for a Pause DC protest: Trump and Xi, make an AI pause deal

Join us near the White House on Sept 19

Why we're doing this

This September, Jacob Coxon, an AI researcher who worked at OpenAI and Anthropic, resigned and warned the world that if we don’t stop the AI development race, it could kill everyone.

A handful of AI labs are recklessly racing ahead in their quest to change our way of life, whatever the cost. This race means data centers being built over the objections of local communities, for the purpose of replacing our jobs, at the risk of killing us all.

Our leaders should put our lives, our jobs, and the environment ahead of corporate profits. Ahead of President Trump’s summit with Xi Jinping, we will demonstrate near the White House to ask him to make a deal with China to pause AI development. A pause on AI development would mean no out-of-control AIs posing a danger to humanity, no more new data centers to fuel the race, and no new job-replacing AIs.

What to expect

Join us in DC on Sept 19. We’ll hear speeches, speak up and show off our signs to ask President Trump to make a deal with Xi Jinping to protect humanity, and take some photos for the media. The more the press tell the world that normal, everyday people are willing to stand outside the halls of power and use their collective voice to solve this issue, the more our decision makers, like President Trump, will take it seriously.

Here’s a challenge for you: write a personal message (email, social media etc) to 5 people telling them you’re coming (or would like to come if you could) and why. Invite them to come with you. If they can’t make it, they can still tell their own friends. Let’s make this protest as big as we can.

Don’t worry if you haven’t been to a protest before. It’s surprisingly fun and fulfilling. So come join us people who, like you, care about protecting our lives and our way of life from uncontrollable AI.

About People for a Pause

Who we are

We are a collection of concerned Americans who believe that AI is the most urgent issue facing our country and the world. With increasingly dire warnings coming from the developers of the technology itself, we are no longer willing to sit by and watch as tech CEOs “gamble with our lives”.

By showing our representatives that this is a key issue to many of us, we want to secure a worldwide pause on advanced AI. Most people don’t want any of this, and it’s time to let that be clear.

We seek to support any people throughout our country that want to get involved in the fight to stop the AI arms race.
